What's the thing with Pineapples?
Strange really takes against them in his madness, but why?
Why pineapples?
His brother in laws fiancé also violently dislikes pineapples.
Is there some connection?
Some significance?
Or is it just one of them things?

Well, they would have been exotic at the time of JS&MN, and surely there may have been some connection to Stephen Black who would have originally come from a tropical climate. Just a thought.

Yes, they would have been exotic, wouldn't they!

Pineapples seem to also be used in a lot of comedic sketches that I've seen. Perhaps it's because they have an odd appearance. Also, they would be rather hard to smuggle about on one's person, which serves to make Strange's paranoia all the more absurd.

Pineapples symbolized friendship and welcoming, I believe. There's a golden one on top of the statehouse in Massachusetts. As for why Strange would take against them for that reason, I have no idea. Maybe he didn't want to be too welcome in that state? Or the wrong sort were being friendly? It was also a major status symbol because of the rarity of it, so perhaps he was reacting to a class/false wealth thing? I don't know -- that's the only significance I've ever heard of being attached to a pineapple.

Maybe Mrs. Delgado didn't like pineapples, and whenever Strange used the powder of the mouse that he took from her to become insane, some of her dislike for them "bled" into him.
Or, maybe it was just a random thing. He was insane, after all!

You know, the ale-house that Childermass took Vinculus to was alos called the Pineapple. Coincidence?

Pineapples are also approaching the size/shape of a human head, which is perhaps unsettling… It’s probably just a series of throwaway jokes, perhaps even in-jokes between Clarke and those around her. She may not have noticed the recurrence, but she’s probably too detail conscious for that to be the case!

In my opinion there is no doubt as to why Strange dislikes pineapples. Its the result of his hallucination where he saw pineapples everywhere, even in one guys mouth.
Now what caused that hallucination, that's the real question.

When Strange was mad, he was more faery like; his magic-reason balance was slightly out of whack. That was, after all, the purpose of his experimentation with insanity.
So, as a madman, pineapples would have been a perfectly reasonable thing to see.
Why pineapples? Because for a sane, rational person, particularly in those times, a man shouting about pineapples being all over the place, even in someone's mouth, would have been absolutely off the wall! And still would be today,, now that I think of it.
Is there another significance? Personally, I'm not so sure. Do pineapples have any historical symbolism or something?
