I'm still badgering New Line to release some information on the film - but it is proving most difficult. I can't stress the number of hits FoEM is getting from Google and other search engines from people wanting to know more about the JS&MN film.
We'll see whether Candice replies to my latest email.

This is what I'm trying to get out of them. They're not playing ball.

I don't know if it will be any good. JS&MN is one of those books that I can't imagine in any medium other than text.

This has been the subject of hours of conversation between myself and a friend of mine. I think...if they do it right, it could be good. I mean, think of the sorts of things you can do with lighting! I can imagine certain scenes being very well done. On the other hand, it would be fairly desolate without Susanna Clarke's wonderful humorous writing, and I don't know how they would do the footnotes.
if it ever comes out (and I'm beginning to doubt that it will), then I will go see it. Afterwards, I will come on here and rant about it.
But I'm rather terrified of seeing the beloved (and not-so-beloved) characters portrayed by actors. The filmmaker/s' vision isn't necessarily the same as mine.

I don’t know if I could bear to watch it. I’ve not seen The Golden Compass and I love Northern Lights very much. The thought of JS&MR getting butchered is a little too much for me. I’m not one of those people who got upset about LOTR and HPOotP missing stuff out, I know that making the film is not about transposing the book onto the screen and that often big changes need to be made. I just worry that what the novel is will need to be sacrificed for appeal to the American market. It would, I think, make a great series for the radio.

Don't worry, if they butcher it for the American market we can have fun mocking it, then go home and snuggle up with the book. Of course Pride & Prejudice turned out to be a great film (and I can't get into Austin's books for some reason) so maybe JS&MR will too.
