Although I've seen this and that actor who might be nice in this or that role, I really miss Stanley Kubrick who had the clout as a director to bring in unknowns who could nail parts cold--partly because no image or ego got in the way. His 2001-SO was peopled by lesser-knowns who were all so clean, untainted, and perfect you wondered if they were magical beings created just for that film.
When I look at the quirky Rosenberg drawings, I'd probably prefer seeing people who look like those folks. (And that would only be a Malcolm MacDowell from the '70s for the Gentleman.)
I'm far more worried about who will direct. It would take a really, really good director and studio to get anywhere near A) creating the vibe, B) getting the nuances and layers. Still, I'm amazed at how over and over again movies turn 100s of millions of dollars into cheap crap... Ha! I guess I'm sounding a bit Norrell-ish, but if the general public gets a dog for a film version, won't that do more harm than good for the book? I mean after all, we are talking about the future of English magic here...
